iMonitor presented at UNODC Conference on Anticorruption Day 2024
On December 9, 2024, the International Anti-Corruption Day, GTI’s scientific director, Prof. Mihály Fazekas, had the opportunity to present the iMonitor project online at a prestigious conference organized in Colombia by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for the Andean Region and the Southern Cone. The event brought together leading regional and international experts, policymakers, and academics to discuss innovative solutions for combating corruption more effectively.
Prof. Fazekas participated in the panel discussion titled “The Academy and its Role in the Prevention and Fight Against Corruption Through the Use of Virtual Ecosystems.” His presentation showcased the innovative approach of iMonitor in leveraging data-driven risk assessments and volunteer-based civic monitoring of high-risk public contracts to help detect and prevent corruption in public spending, with a special focus on the contract implementation phase, for which access to structured public data is typically most limited and challenging. He also highlighted how the project draws inspiration from previous similar initiatives implemented in Latin America.
We are thrilled to have the iMonitor project featured to a largely non-European audience, as part of relevant discussion on innovation in anti-corruption in other parts of the world. A full broadcast of the event is available here (The presentation on iMonitor starts at 5:16:30, with translation in Spanish).
